Len O’Kelly is an experienced broadcast veteran with over 21
years in the business.

Radio

Len’s classic baritone and flexible delivery can handle a wide
array of styles. He has worked for radio stations in nearly every
format, from news to rock and back again, and has worn the hat
of every program position possible: morning drive host, news
anchor, program director, music director, production director,
drive-time jock, and even board operator.

Len recently took the reins as program director and morning host
of Oldies 98.7 WFGR in Grand Rapids, MI.  He also serves as the
program director for WFGR's sister station, WTRV (known as
"100.5 The River." )  Before coming to Grand Rapids, Len had
been keeping busy in the production department at Chicago’s
WGN Radio 720, and also voice tracking for 95.3 WBXX in Battle
Creek, Michigan (afternoon drive) and WOOD-FM in Grand
Rapids. Len served as the production director at Chicago’s Real
Oldies 1690, WRLL-AM, working alongside Chicago radio
legends like Tommy Edwards and Larry Lujack.

Radio has taken Len to places as diverse as Gisborne, New
Zealand (where he was a finalist for a national Radio Personality
of the Year award) and Quad Cities, IA; the bulk of his radio work,
however, has been in and around the Chicago area, with stops in
Rockford (IL) and Grand Rapids (MI).

The bulk of Len's work has been in the oldies format.  He served
as the Assistant Program Director and Music Director of the
former Oldies 104.3 WJMK/Chicago.  There he was the regular
"fill-in" host for the John Records Landecker morning show.
From Chicago Len went on to program WODJ/Grand Rapids, MI,
where he spent a few years.

Throughout 2006 Len served as Resident Professional in the
radio program at St. Xavier University in Chicago. Len mentored
the students at WXAV-FM, helping them learn the ins and outs of
live radio and helped them with getting that first important
internship or job. Presently Len is pursuing a master's degree in
public administration at Grand Valley State University.

Voiceover

You may have heard Len through your telephone, telling you just
how important your call is. Len runs his own freelance voiceover
business, providing telephone on-hold, corporate narration, and
television commercial voiceovers—now heard in 35 states and
Canada.

In the fall of 2006 WYIN-TV in Merrillville, IN unveiled new station
branding and imaging, featuring Len as the station booth
announcer. Listen for Len at station-identification breaks and in
promotions for upcoming programs on "Lakeshore Public
Television."

Despite the tremendous volume and diversity of Len’s voice work,
he will immediately answer that his favorite voice work of all time
was when he served as stadium announcer for the Sultans of
Springfield minor league baseball team. (Len is a huge baseball
fan!)

Film

Some time in 2009 Len’s voice will be heard as the narrator in a
feature-length documentary film about the long-abandoned Dixie
Square Mall.  Watch for updates!

Television

After 30-plus years of getting irrepressibly excited about
thunderstorms, Len accomplished his lifelong dream of becoming
a certified meteorologist and ventured into the brave new world of
television weather. After interning with Rick DiMaio at Fox 32 in
Chicago, Len quickly became the permanent fill-in meteorologist
at WYIN-56 in Merrillville, Indiana.

When not forecasting the weather, he’s watching it—Len is a
trained weather spotter active in a local Skywarn amateur radio
group.  He is a member of the Kent County (MI) Radio Amateur
Civil Emergency Service (RACES) and holds an Extra class
amateur radio license, NE8Q.

In his free time, Len has volunteered with the City of Oak Forest,
Illinois as a cable commissioner and served as the voice of the
City’s telephone system. He serves as a media liaison for the
Alzheimer's Association of West Michigan, has read for CRIS
radio, a volunteer radio service for the blind, and has emceed
countless charity auctions and banquets.  You'll likely see Len
around classic car shows in West Michigan in his 1957 Chevy Bel-
Air!
